About The Cover: OJemah
In 2018, I straggled down to the coffee kiosk in an Orlando hotel while on a trip with my soon-to-unravel family. Tensions were high in the confines of our room.
The barista’s sunny disposition scattered not only my gloom but all who stepped to her counter. Her name tag said ‘OJemah’
As I took my coffee to a nearby table, it became clear that Ojemah was a light fixture in the hotel; many sought her out for a quick hello or a word of encouragement.
I’d recently started working through The Artist’s Way, so she made it into my Morning Pages and a sketch journal.
I snapped a picture before leaving the sketch as a tiny gratuity for Ojemah which is still archived @
Deviant Art with this caption: “Good customer service is inspiring: As I got my morning coffee, I watched Ojemah’s smile spread to each person who crossed her counter, even those to whom she offered consolation for recent loss. Those who know about the joy hiding amongst the coffee beans, tucked in the tiny far left corner of the hotel’s lobby, seek her out at the start of their shift- the rest of us just got lucky.

We went on to connect online where it has been a privilege to watch Ojemah illuminate the world around her ever since.
